Helm Verified: File Data Check

How Helm Verified checks your filing data

Written by Support Team

When you create an ISF, Helm pre-fills as much of it as it can from your documents. Before it's saved to your TMS, you review that information to make sure everything is correct. Helm Verified makes that review easier: it checks your ISF for common filing mistakes as you work and takes you straight to anything that needs attention.

Where to find Helm Verified

Helm Verified runs automatically on every ISF in Create Files — ISF. You don't need to turn it on. At the bottom of the form you'll see two indicators:

  • ISF Transmit Readiness: a progress bar showing how ready the ISF is to transmit to U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), for example 82%.

  • Checks need attention: how many checks are flagged, for example 1 check needs attention.

To open the Helm Verified panel, click the checks need attention indicator, or click Helm Verified at the top right of the form.

What you should see: a panel on the right titled Helm Verified, with two tabs: Verifications and ISF Transmit Readiness.

Verifications tab

The Verifications tab lists every check Helm runs on your ISF. Each check is either flagged (needs your attention) or passed.

Check

What Helm looks for

ISF Already on File

Whether an ISF with this bill number or owner reference already exists. If it does, your TMS will update the existing ISF instead of creating a new one.

Prefixed SCAC on Bill Numbers

Whether each bill number starts with the carrier's SCAC prefix.

ISF Readiness

Whether every required element for your ISF type is complete.

ISF filing deadline risk

Whether the filing is at risk of missing its deadline, based on the main-leg estimated departure.

House Bill Present with Master Bill

Whether a master bill accompanies every house bill.

See only what needs attention

The tab shows All checks by default, so you can see everything Helm verified. To see only the checks that need your attention, click Flagged.

Fix a flagged check

  1. Click See what's missing

  2. Click Go to field

  3. Helm takes you straight to the field causing the flag so you can fill it in

  4. Update the field

Example: if ISF Already on File is flagged and you meant to file a separate ISF, change the matching bill number or owner reference.

ISF Transmit Readiness tab

The ISF Transmit Readiness tab shows whether your ISF has every element CBP requires for its ISF type, so it can be transmitted to CBP. Transmit readiness is about filing with CBP, not about saving to your TMS. For an ISF 10, Helm checks 11 fields, including:

  • Buyer

  • Importer of record number

  • Consignee number

  • Ship-to party

  • Container stuffing location

  • Consolidator

  • Lowest bill number on file

  • Manufacturer

  • Country of origin

  • Tariff number

Find missing fields

  1. Click See what's missing

  2. Click Go to field

  3. Helm takes you straight to the field causing the flag so you can fill it in

  4. Update the field

What you should see: the ISF Transmit Readiness bar at the bottom of the form reaches 100% once every required field is filled.

Saving with flagged items

When you click Save to your TMS while there are still checks flagged, Helm has a stop point via a pop-up window.

  • Review: go back and fix the flagged items first

  • Save Anyway: save the ISF to CargoWise as is

This reminder appears whether or not you opened the Helm Verified panel, so flagged items don't slip through unnoticed.

FAQ

Do I have to fix every flagged check before saving? No. Flagged checks are warnings by default. You decide whether to fix them or save anyway.

Is there still a separate review screen before saving? No. Save to CargoWise now saves directly, with the flagged-items reminder in place of the old review step.

What if I already started a draft? You can continue the draft you already edited, or start over with Helm's pre-filled information.
