The US Imports Tariff Lookup Tool is a self-serve resource built into the Logixboard platform under the new Tools tab. It allows you—and your customers—to quickly and easily look up US import duty rates based on Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTS) codes and country of origin.

The tool is designed for informational and directional use only, and is not intended to replace your customs compliance process.

Whether evaluating sourcing decisions or look for support on landed cost estimation, this tool helps you:

  • 🔍 Check final ad valorem duty rates for US imports

  • 🌍 Compare sourcing options across countries (e.g., China vs Vietnam)

  • 🧾 Discover trade programs that may lower duty exposure

  • 📊 Stay ahead of margin-impacting tariffs like Section 301 and EO 14257

Unlike a standard lookup on the USITC site, this tool reflects real-world, business-impacting tariff rules—including special tariffs and upcoming changes—so your results are closer to what you might actually pay.

⚙️ How It Works

Step 1: Enter Product & Origin

Enter a valid 8-digit HS code (validated on input) and select a country of origin from the list provided.

Step 2: View Duty Details

For the selected product and country, the tool returns:

  • MFN Rate (Base Rate): The Most-Favored Nation duty rate derived directly from the USITC data source ("mfn_text_rate").

  • Total Ad Valorem Rate: The combined Ad Valorem rate after applying all relevant duties (e.g., Section 301, EO 14257). Per-unit duties are not included in this rate; see here for more information.

  • Trade Program Indicator: If the country of origin benefits from preferential trade agreements, it will be flagged as such with a short note.

Step 3: Add Comparisons

Optionally, add up to 2 additional countries of origin to compare rates side-by-side.

🧠 Behind the Scenes (Data Pipeline Overview)

Here’s a simplified view of how the data is modeled:

  1. Tariff Import: Official HTS schedules are pulled and processed to retain relevant data.

  2. Data Normalization: Data is cleaned and formatted to support readability and downstream country-level comparisons.

  3. Special Tariffs Applied: Additional duties (like Section 301 and 2025 EO increases) are merged into the base dataset for impacted origin countries.

  4. Comprehensive Mapping: A data transform ensures every HTS code is mapped to every valid country, and a blanket 10% rate is applied as a fallback if needed.

  5. Rate Calculation: Final ad valorem rates are computed per HTS code and country, incorporating MFN, FTA, and special tariffs where applicable.

📚 FAQs

From where is the data sourced? Is the data official?

The dataset draws from official US tariff schedules and adds adjustments from applicable special tariff programs sourced from both official and unofficial publications. The tool is designed for informational and directional use only, and should not replace your customs compliance process.

Specifically, data is sourced from:

  1. 2025 USITC tariff table for published base rates.

  2. USTR Section 301 publication for actions on Chinese imports.

  3. Unofficial trackers for Trump-era tariff actions, such as the Trade Compliance Resource Hub and the Washington Post. These sources provide valuable additions — such as the blanket 10% import tariff — that are often not represented in the official sources above.

What special tariffs are included?

We incorporate:

  • Section 301 duties

  • Executive Orders like EO 14257

  • New IEEPA and related tariff increases scheduled to take effect on July 9, 2025 and/or August 1, 2025

However, we do not break out which specific program applies—just the final combined ad valorem rate.

Can I download or export the results?

Not at this time. We currently offer on-screen comparisons only.

Are all countries included?

Most countries are supported, but results are not shown for:

  • Belarus

  • Cuba

  • North Korea

  • Russia

What if I enter an invalid HS code?

The tool will flag invalid inputs immediately. Only valid, 8-digit US HTS codes are accepted.

Are “per unit” duties included in the ad valorem rate?

No. For hybrid HTS codes with both per-unit and ad valorem rates, the tool will display per-unit rates within the base MFN rate; however, the Total Ad Valorem Rate only includes percentage-based duties, and per-unit or specific duties are not converted into percentage equivalents within the total rate.
