Logixboard Mapping Guide - Landed Cost

This document is the master map for our Landed Cost Page.

Written by Support Team

The Landed Costs dashboard shows what it really costs to get your products to their destination: the price paid to the supplier plus freight, duties, taxes and insurance.

All landed cost data comes from CargoWise (CW). It's read mainly from your Customs Declarations and the Commercial Invoices attached to them. Logixboard plans to incorporate additional data directly from shipments and Account Receivables at a later date. This purpose of this guide is to demonstrate where each number comes from in CargoWise and how it’s calculated. This guide can be used internally and for customers.

💡 The dashboard is designed to show where your costs are going and highlight trends. Because CargoWise setups vary instance to instance, it won't match every accounting figure to the cent. The more consistently your declarations are filled in, the more accurate it will be.

Before you start:

What CargoWise needs

For a shipment to appear on the dashboard with costs, the following needs to be present in CW.

Requirement

Required?

Why it matters

Active CargoWise integration with Logixboard

Required

CW is the only supported data source for Landed Costs.

Customs Declaration — standalone (B-file) or attached to a forwarding shipment (S-file)

Required

Costs are calculated from the declaration's commercial invoices.

Commercial invoice with an Invoice Number, Invoice Currency and Invoice Amount (Fig. A1, A2)

Required

Without a currency, supplier cost can't be converted and shows as 0.

Invoice lines with a Product Code (Part No.), Line Price, Quantity and Weight (Fig. B2, B3, B5)

Required

Products are identified by Part No. Weight drives all "per kg" metrics.

Job Costing currency on the declaration

Required

All costs and their respective currencies are first converted into this currency. If it's empty, every cost on that declaration shows as 0.

Delivery date (Delivery Cartage Completed)

Required

The dashboard's date filter uses this date. Shipments without it never appear.

At least one of Export Date, Invoice Date, ATD or ETD (Fig. A4)

Required

Used to pick the exchange rate for supplier cost and insurance.

Supplier on the shipment or invoice (Fig. A3, C6)

Optional

Needed only for the supplier charts. Records without a supplier still count everywhere else.

A4

Export Date

First date checked when picking the exchange rate for Supplier Cost and Insurance

A5

Group Charges (All Invoices) › OFT (Amount, Curr.)

Freight entered once for a group of invoices (for example, one freight bill covering the whole shipment). Split across the lines of every invoice in the group using Distribute By (see C1).

A6

Invoice Charges › OFT (Amount, Curr.)

Depending on how the declaration is set up, freight can be entered here instead, for one commercial invoice only (for example, when the supplier's invoice lists freight). Split across that invoice's lines only. Either way, the dashboard reads the resulting per-line Freight (see C1).

How landed cost is calculated

Landed cost is calculated for each commercial invoice line first, then added up by product, supplier, mode, tradelane or shipment depending on the chart.

Total Landed Cost = Supplier Cost + Freight + Duties + Taxes + Insurance

Brokerage fees and levies are not included in landed cost today.

The five cost components

Component

Where it comes from in CargoWise

How it's calculated

Supplier Cost

Customs Declaration › Inv. Lines › Line Price, in the invoice currency

The Line Price of each invoice line, converted from the invoice currency. The Line Prices on an invoice add up to the Invoice Amount. Customs Value isn't used. (Fig. B3, B6)

Freight

Brokerage › Inv. Lines › Line Calculations › Freight (charge code OFT)

The freight amount on each invoice line, converted using the line's agreed exchange rate. (Fig. C1, A5)

Duties

Brokerage › Inv. Lines › Line Calculations › Duty, Sup. Duty and Additional Tariffs (AT1–AT5)

Duty + provisional/supplementary duty + any additional tariffs on the line, converted using the line's agreed exchange rate. (Fig. C3–C5)

Taxes

Customs Entry › Entry Lines › Charges: GST (incl. deferred GST, GSD) and VAT (B00)

GST + VAT from the customs entry line that matches the invoice line (matched on Entry Number and Entry Line Number, Fig. B1). Already in local currency, so not converted.

Insurance

Brokerage › Inv. Lines › Line Calculations › Insurance (charge code ONS)

The insurance amount on each invoice line, converted from that charge's own currency. (Fig. C2)

B1

Entry/Line Nos.

Not shown on the dashboard. Used to link each invoice line to its customs entry line so GST/VAT(when applicable) can be added to Taxes.

B2

Product Code

Product Code (Part No.). Identifies the product and drives the Product Code filter.

B3

Line Price

Supplier Cost. The total price of the invoice line, in the invoice currency. Customs Value isn't used.

B4

Goods Description

Product Description filter

B5

Gr. Weight (+ UQ)

Weight for all "per kg" metrics

B6

Invoice Line › Inv. Price + currency

The same Line Price for the selected line, shown with its currency. This is the currency Supplier Cost is converted from (it matches the invoice currency, A2).

Manufacturer

Supplier fallback when no Supplier is set on the shipment

Worked example: supplier cost per product

An invoice for USD 100,000 has two lines:

Line

Product (Part No.)

Line Price

Supplier Cost on the dashboard

1

PRODUCT-A

USD 10,000

USD 10,000

2

PRODUCT-B

USD 90,000

USD 90,000

Total

USD 100,000 (= Invoice Amount)

USD 100,000

Each product carries its own Line Price, so higher-value products show a higher supplier cost. The amounts are then converted into your reporting currency (see Currency conversion below).

Filters

All charts on the page respond to the filters at the top.

Filter

What it filters on in CargoWise

ATA Date

The shipment's ATA for the Port of Discharge. Data is available from 1 January 2025.

Mode

Transport Mode on the shipment/declaration (e.g. SEA, AIR, ROAD, RAIL).

Product Code

Part No. on the invoice line. (Fig. B2)

Product Description

Description on the invoice line. (Fig. B4)

Shipment Number

The S-number (forwarding shipment) or B-number (standalone declaration).

Origin / Destination

Port of Origin / Port of Destination (UN/LOCODE, e.g. CNSHA, USLAX).

Supplier

The supplier resolved as described in Top / Lowest 10 Suppliers below.

Dashboard sections

KPI cards

Card

What it shows

Total Shipments

Every shipment delivered in the selected date range, including shipments with no cost data.

Total Units

Sum of the Customs Quantity on every invoice line. Units of measure are not converted (e.g. pieces and cartons are added together).

Logistics Spend

Total freight across all invoice lines.

Avg. Log. Spend/Kg

Logistics Spend ÷ total weight (kg) of all invoice lines.

Each card also compares the selected period to the previous period of the same length.

In the dashboard, "Logistics Spend" always means freight only. It does not include duties, taxes, insurance or supplier cost.

Product Cost Breakdown

One stacked bar per product code, split into Supplier Cost, Freight, Duties, Taxes and Insurance. The total at the end of the bar is the product's Total Landed Cost.

  • A product appears only if it has a Product Code (Part No.) and a Supplier Cost greater than 0.

  • If a product's supplier cost can't be calculated (for example, the invoice currency is missing), the product won't appear in this chart, even if it has freight or duties.

Landed Cost by Mode

Column

What it shows

Mode

Transport Mode from the shipment/declaration. Container type (FCL/LCL) isn't shown separately. Shipments with no mode show as UNKNOWN.

Average Logistics Spend per Kg

Freight ÷ total weight (kg). Only lines with a freight charge count toward weight here.

Shipments

Number of shipments in that mode with at least one non-zero cost.

Total Weight (kg)

Sum of invoice line weights, converted to kg. Only lines with a freight charge are counted.

Total Landed Cost

Supplier Cost + Freight + Duties + Taxes + Insurance.

Landed Cost by Tradelane

Works exactly like Landed Cost by Mode, but grouped by tradelane: Port of Origin – Port of Destination (for example, CNNBO - USEWR).

Cost Drivers

Use the dropdown to view these charts by Mode or by Tradelane.

  • Logistics Invoice by Cost Driver — total freight for the top 10 modes or tradelanes.

  • Avg. Logistics Spend/Kg by Cost Driver — freight ÷ weight of all invoice lines.

  • Avg. Spend by Cost Driver — weekly trend of Total Landed Cost ÷ number of shipments.

Top 10 / Lowest 10 Products by Landed Cost

  • Products are identified by Part No. Lines without a Part No. are left out.

  • Bars show Total Landed Cost per product.

  • The Lowest 10 chart leaves out products with a landed cost of 0 or less.

Top 10 / Lowest 10 Suppliers by Landed Cost

The supplier is picked in this order, using the first one found:

  1. The Supplier organization on the shipment (Supplier Documentary Address)

  2. The Manufacturer organization on the commercial invoice (Fig. C6)

  3. The supplier name stored on the shipment

Records with no supplier are left out of these two charts but still count everywhere else. The Lowest 10 chart also leaves out suppliers with a landed cost of 0 or less.

Landed Cost by Shipment

Column

What it shows

Shipment ID

The S-number, or the B-number for standalone declarations.

Mode

Transport Mode.

Actual Delivery Date

Delivery Cartage Completed date.

Total Weight (kg)

Sum of all invoice line weights on the shipment.

Total Logistics Spend

Freight.

Average Logistics Spend per Kg

Freight ÷ weight.

Total Landed Cost

Supplier Cost + Freight + Duties + Taxes + Insurance.

Currency conversion

Costs are converted in two steps so everything can be shown in one currency.

Step

From → To

Rate used

1. Into Job Costing currency (nightly)

Original currency → the declaration's Job Costing currency in CW

Supplier Cost (Line Price, using the invoice currency) & Insurance: daily exchange rate on the export date (Export Date → Invoice Date → ATD → ETD, first one found) Freight & Duties: the Agreed Exchange Rate on the invoice line in CW Taxes: no conversion (already in local currency)

Freight & Duties: the Agreed Exchange Rate on the invoice line in CW

Taxes: no conversion (already in local currency)

2. Into your reporting currency (when the page loads)

Job Costing currency → your Logixboard default currency

Daily exchange rate on the Actual Delivery Date

Your reporting currency is set in Logixboard under Settings › Profile › Default Currency.

⚠️ If an exchange rate isn't available for the exact date needed, that amount shows as 0 rather than using a nearby date.

Things to know

Why is a product's supplier cost 0, or why is the product missing from the Product Cost Breakdown?

Supplier cost shows as 0 when any of these is true:

  • The invoice has no Invoice Amount / Line Price

  • The invoice has no Invoice Currency

  • There's no exchange rate from the invoice currency on the export date

The Product Cost Breakdown only shows products with supplier cost above 0, so these products drop out of that chart.

Why are all costs 0 for a shipment?

  • The declaration has no Job Costing currency in CW. Every cost is converted into that currency first, so without it all components show as 0.

Why doesn't a shipment appear at all?

The date filter uses the delivery date (Delivery Cartage Completed). Shipments without a delivery date, or delivered before 1 January 2025, won't appear.

If you're set up as an organization-restricted user, you'll only see shipments where your organization is the Local Client, Consignor or Consignee.

Why does Total Shipments not match the Shipments column in the tables?

  • The Total Shipments card counts every delivered shipment. The tables and charts only count shipments with at least one non-zero cost.

Why is Avg. Spend/Kg different on the KPI card and the Mode table?

  • They use different weights. The KPI card and Cost Driver charts divide by the weight of all invoice lines. The Mode and Tradelane tables divide only by the weight of lines that have a freight charge.

Which charges are included?

  • Only specific charge codes are counted:

    • Freight: OFT

    • Insurance: ONS

    • Taxes: GST, GSD (deferred GST), B00 (VAT)

Other charge codes, brokerage fees and levies aren't included in landed cost.

Why does freight or duty look higher or lower than expected?

  • Freight and duties are converted using the Agreed Exchange Rate on the invoice line in CW. If that rate is missing, 0, or set unexpectedly, the converted value will be off. Check the agreed exchange rate on the invoice lines for the shipment.
