Updating Route Dates in Helm

Written by Support Team

Every carrier update used to mean the same drill: dig through CargoWise, cross-check dates across screens, then update everything by hand. With Helm, you can edit route dates directly from the Routing card without leaving Outlook.

What can be updated?

These are the route updates you can make from pickup all the way to delivery within your inbox.

How to update a route

Routing dates change constantly. A revised ETA from the carrier, an updated arrival notice, a rebooked vessel, a delayed pickup... that used to mean a lot of time switching between CargoWise and Outlook. See how Helm keeps you in Outlook to make these updates seamless.

  1. Click the Helm app

  2. Click any email in Outlook

  3. In the Overview tab, scroll down to Routing

  4. Click into the date field you need to update, right from the sidebar. The options will include, but not limited to:

    1. Pickup

    2. POL

    3. Transport legs

    4. POD

    5. Delivered

  5. Click Edit

  6. Select the date to reflect the newest update

  7. Click Save

Where this updates in CargoWise

  • Pre-carriage (Pickup) dates write to the S-file's Pickup tab.

  • Main carriage (Route leg) dates write to the Consol's routing tab.

  • On-carriage (Delivery) dates write to the S-file's Delivery tab.

  • Route leg updates cascade. Editing a route leg's ETD/ATD/ETA/ATA updates the Consol and all of its linked shipments together. So you only have to make the edit once, and every connected S-file reflects it.

Good to know

  • Route leg updates cascade. Editing a route leg's ETD/ATD/ETA/ATA updates the consolidation and all of its related shipments. You simply need to make the edit once.

  • This is a shortcut, not a replacement. It's built for quick, targeted date changes. If you need to touch other fields on the shipment, use the full update flow in CargoWise, as usual.

  • Edits made elsewhere may not show up here. Date changes made on a shipment's main or description tabs don't always flow through to the Routing tab automatically. If a date on the Routing card looks out of sync, check whether it was last updated somewhere else in CargoWise.

  • No Edit buttons on the Routing card? The file is likely closed in CargoWise. Once a shipment reaches the end of its workflow (checklist complete, charges audited, invoices sent), CargoWise closes it out financially and locks the record. This is most common on older, already-delivered shipments.
