Overview
Logixboard calculates CO2 emissions for shipments using three main factors: distance, transport mode, and weight of cargo. Shipments get sent to Lune for Co2 calculation as soon as we receive the ATA at Destination Port. This document outlines the troubleshooting steps for missing Co2 emission data along with some examples.
Calculation Factors
Distance: The route of the shipment includes distance from pickup location to Port of Loading and Port of Discharge to delivery location
Transport Mode: Rail, Road, Air or Sea
Weight: Crucial factor in the calculation
Weight Calculation Process
For the weight calculation, Logixboard uses the following prioritization:
Weight of associated transport packs.
If transport pack weight is unavailable, it falls back to shipment gross weight.
If both are unavailable (0, null, or undefined), a default of 1 container (equivalent to 2 average containers in Lune's calculation) is used.
Several reasons why a shipment might be missing CO2 data:
1. Calculation milestone not reached: The current calculation milestone is having an ATA on the last transport leg. If this hasn't been reached, the CO2 won't be calculated.
2. Missing or incomplete data: The CO2 calculation requires three main factors: distance (pickup and delivery address), transport mode, and weight of cargo. If any of these are missing or incomplete, it could prevent the calculation.
Refer to the Basic Registration tab and check if any of these details are missing.
3. Feature not enabled: If the CO2 calculation feature is not enabled, the shipment won't have CO2 data.
4. Invalid address data: If a shipment has invalid address data, it will prevent CO2 calculations from showing in the UI.
To ensure that the address for either of the Shipment related party is valid, click on the Verify icon besides address in CargoWise.
Here is how it would look like if an address is valid and verified.

5. Shipment created before feature enablement: CO2 emissions are only calculated for shipments created after Logixboard enables this feature for a customer.
6. Failed calculation: If you have verified the above reasons and certain Shipments are still missing CO2, it is likely that the calculation failed at some point, since the emissions won't be recalculated as there's currently no retry system implemented, please reach out to our Support team.
Calculation Trigger
What triggers Co2 calculation?
CO2 emissions are calculated for shipments with an Actual Time of Arrival (ATA) at Destination Port. "When" this date is entered is crucial because Co2 emission is done only once during a Shipment lifecycle.
What that means is, any of the mandatory fields required for calculation like, mode of transport, weight, location info should be entered prior to entering ATA at Destination Port.
Examples of missing emission data
Example 1: Shipment’s Delivered but missing Co2. Why? Because it does not have ATA at Destination Port.
We might wonder, how is this Shipment marked as Delivered if there is no ATA. That’s because this Shipment has Actual Delivery Date to Final Destination which is 27th August 2024 so practically the Shipment has been delivered even though the Operator did not enter the ATA. However, Lune relies on us providing the ATA so this is the reason there’s no Co2.
Example 2: This one below is a Road Shipment so Co2 emission calculation is based on Delivery Date. However, Co2 is still missing, why?
The reason is because Pickup Location address does not have Country Code
The full address for this example should be:
3550 N Highway 161, Suite 100, Grand Prairie, TX 75050, US
