1. Where can I learn more about the current regulations?

See this overview from our partner, Lune.

2. Why did we choose Lune as our vendor? How do they compare to EcoTransIT?

Like EcoTransIT, Lune was audited & accredited by Smart Freight Centre, following the GLEC Framework, and compliant with ISO 14083.

We chose Lune for several reasons:

  • Lune goes beyond GLEC "industry averages" to increase the granularity of their calculations. They have support for 16,000 vessel-specific emissions factors, including all common ocean vessel types.

  • Lune does multi-leg calculations, taking into account all data provided for each leg in a single calculation.

  • Lune is very transparent about how they perform the calculations. CO2 Emission Calculations has a step-by-step explanation of how the calculations work.

  • Lune goes beyond just CO2 calculations. They also offer high quality carbon offsetting, allowing LXB to incorporate that into the platform at some point in the future.

  • They have more advanced technology than other vendors, making it easier to integrate with our platform.

3. What is the GLEC framework?

The Global Logistics Emissions Council (GLEC) has developed a framework for calculating and reporting greenhouse gases in supply chains. It is the only globally recognized methodology for emissions calculations. Read more here.

4. How does Lune calculate CO2 emissions?

Lune calculations use the GLEC framework and are based on the shipment information from Logixboard (transport mode, weight, distance). See CO2 Emission Tracking for more details.

5. Does the calculation include all shipment legs or just ocean?

The calculation covers all available legs within the shipment, regardless of mode. We also use the pickup and delivery address to create pickup and delivery legs that are included in the calculations.

For Road shipments (which typically do not have legs), we use the Pickup and Delivery locations only.

6. Exactly when does the CO2 calculation show up in Logixboard?

The calculation happens once we get the ATA for the final leg of the route. For Road shipments, the calculation happens once we get an Actual Delivery Time.

Note that CO2 calculations are performed once and cannot be updated. All relevant data (weight, legs, etc.) should be entered into the TMS before the actual arrival or delivery time is entered to ensure accurate calculations.

8. Do we offer any functionality for carbon offsets?

Not currently, but we are looking at potentially supporting this in the future.

9. Can we show CO2 calculations anytime before a shipment is complete?

Not currently, but we are considering this for the future.

10. Can we display data comparison on a Year over Year, Quarter over Quarter, Month over Month level?

Yes, you can compare date ranges by changing the filters on the analytics page to show different timeframes. You can download the raw data from the Carbon Intensity chart to CSV for side-by-side comparisons.
