Overview
Variance refers to the difference between the originally estimated dates (first ETA or ETD introduced in the TMS) and the most recent dates for shipments. This documentation outlines the key aspects of variance tracking, calculation, and configuration in Logixboard.
Key Variance Dates
Logixboard tracks variance for two primary dates:
(Estimated Time of Departure) ETD Origin Port with Variance
(Estimated Time of Arrival) ETA Final Destination Port with Variance
Variance Calculation
The variance is calculated by comparing the initial date first input by the TMS Operator in their Transportation Management System (TMS) with the most recent value.
Let’s take below Shipment as an example which shows ETD Origin Port Variance of +110 days and ETA Final Destination Port Variance of +96 days.
In order to view the Original (first) ETD and the current (most recent) ETD:
Go to Operate > Forwarding > Shipments > Workflow and Tracking > Events
Filter by:
Event Code: DEP
Include Estimates: ✔️
Include Cancelled: ✔️
Based on the Posted Time, the first ETD is 07-JUN-24 and the most recent ETD is 25-SEP-24. From June 7, 2024, to September 25, 2024, is a period of 110 days; as shown in LXB.
Based on the Posted Time, the first ETA is 28-JUN-24 and the most recent ETA is 02-OCT-24. From June 28, 2024, to October 02, 2024, is a period of 96 days; as shown in LXB.
🚨 Special Considerations
C1s may not always have accurate ETD/ETA when first creating a shipment file, often using placeholder dates. This can lead to inaccurate variance values since the system considers the first date value as Original date when calculating Variance.
Configuration Options
To address such challenges, we have a configuration option that allows users with Admin rights to turn off variance fields from being visible in the portal.
